Process & System Notes

The Automet® pipe design & survey system

Automet® is an integrated design, survey and reporting system built specifically for marine piping — for prefabrication, installation and repair.

Core functions:

  • Generates a 3D digital-twin model of the pipe layout, greatly simplifying design and pre-assembly verification
  • Reduces on-site rework, significantly saving drydock time and retrofit cost

Typical workflow:

  • Import CAD drawings or pipe design parameters
  • Build a complete 3D digital-twin model
  • Survey spool axes and flanges with a Leica total station
  • Auto-generate QC reports annotated with fabrication tolerances
  • Precise factory prefabrication and first-time on-site fit

Value in use:

  • Dimensional and flange-alignment checks in 2–3 minutes per spool
  • One-click generation of a standard-format 3D digital report
  • Supports on-site survey at any port worldwide, with remote factory prefabrication and delivery

♻️ PE-lining refurbishment — process highlights

Old pipe is restored by rotary (rotomoulded) lining, recovering corrosion protection to a new-pipe standard.

  • Reusing the parent pipe greatly reduces steel consumption and carbon
  • Refurbished in place, matching the existing flange interfaces 100% with no change to the pipe layout
  • A 5-year drydock warranty on completion, to the same standard as new pipe
  • A lining design life of over 15 years
  • The cost advantage is especially clear on large-bore pipe
  • Particularly suited to large-bore seawater-cooling and ballast lines on 10–16-year-old vessels
  • Lower cost than new fabricated-and-coated pipe 30%–50%
  • A far shorter schedule than full replacement plus on-site coating

Technical Q&A

PE lining · refurbishment · survey · delivery

Carbon steel, stainless and alloy steel — with elbows, tees, reducers, basket strainers and other complex shapes made to your drawings.

2 mm to 10 mm, tailored to pipe diameter and service (seawater, chemicals, abrasion).

Thorough washing, de-rusting and blasting to remove old coating and corrosion, then re-lining with PE or recoating to ensure proper adhesion.

No. It is non-contact and done with the pipe in service, without disrupting normal vessel or plant operation.

ABS (PDA), DNV and BV welding-procedure approvals; all shipped pipe comes with certificates meeting classification-society requirements.

Up to DN1600 (63 inch) — large-bore refurbishment and PE lining are among our strengths.

Better corrosion and abrasion resistance than new carbon-steel pipe, a service life over 15 years, at just 40-50% of new-pipe cost.

No. It is 100% factory-prefabricated, all-flanged, with zero on-site hot work.

2–3 weeks after survey for standard projects; for urgent orders as fast as 36 hours (e.g. a DN750 elbow/tee) or 6–8 days (survey in Hong Kong → delivery from Shenzhen).

We manufacture in our own Shenzhen workshop and deliver China-factory pricing to your vessel at any port worldwide; pipe refurbishment runs about 40–50% of new-pipe cost. A free assessment is available.

PE-lined steel combines the strength of steel with the corrosion resistance of PE — water absorption below 0.01% (FRP above 1%), little delamination, and better resistance to seawater and dilute sulphuric acid.
