PE roto-lined steel combines a structural steel carrier pipe with a continuous polyethylene corrosion barrier. For marine scrubber piping, it can provide a practical alternative where the specified temperature, chemistry, pressure and mechanical loads remain within the selected lining system’s verified limits.

Material-selection considerations

Selection should begin with the actual operating envelope: normal and upset temperature, sulfuric-acid concentration, solids, pressure or vacuum, pipe movement, external loads and the expected inspection regime. No lining material should be selected from corrosion resistance alone.

  • The steel pipe carries structural and mechanical loads.
  • The polymer lining separates the steel from the corrosive process medium.
  • Spools can be detailed and prefabricated for a defined vessel or yard installation scope.

Engineering and fabrication controls

A project specification should define the lining grade, minimum thickness, end-detail design, dimensional tolerances, inspection and testing. Fabrication details must avoid exposing the steel substrate at joints and interfaces. The final material system remains subject to owner, designer and classification requirements.
